Whitby's Food Truck Frenzy 2017

Whitby's Food Truck Frenzy Review

For the last three years(2015,2016), I’ve looked forward to the month of May. Not only because the weather begins to finally be nice but it also because it means that the annual Food Truck Frenzy hosted by Whitby’s Rotary Club is right around the corner. I love to get my eat on, and this event just encourages me to do so! Further, they had Brock St. Brewing Co. back this year, which is a local craft brewery, making it even MORE awesome!

I honestly can’t say enough good things about this event. For starters, it's so well spaced out. It might not seem like a big deal, but anyone who tried going to a particular mac and cheese festival a couple of years ago in Toronto knows how important this is. No one likes to be cramped when ordering and eating their food.

Last year they had it mid-May, which, unfortunately for the festival turned out to be a cold, windy, and wet weekend. It was too cold. I’m not going to lie; it was hard to enjoy ourselves. This year they moved the festival to the last weekend in May. This paid off as the weather was beautiful. It was sunny, warm, and it wasn’t humid at all. It was perfect. My friend got a sun burn.

Finally, the number of food trucks that this festival continues to attract is astounding. And it's a good thing too because they are what makes this festival special. I’m always looking for the most creative dish, and with so many trucks there, I know I'm going to come across something. To me, food trucks should be pushing the boundaries of what is considered “acceptable” food pairings. So yeah, put pulled pork/brisket on a Cinnamon Bun. And yeah, make ice cream cones out of bread because those risks can lead into a new culinary adventure. I mean, who wants to eat another plain old burger? (Not this guy) So what was my favourite food truck and dish this year? The clear winner was Eva’s Original Chimney Stacks ice cream cones. Those delectable treats were so tasty; I can’t even begin to describe what they were like. You truly have to experience them.

Next year, you have to go to this event. Stop making excuses and start getting your eat on. And if you see me there, say hello! We can indulge together.
