The Giveaway.

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege meeting two local food bloggers. We decided to go to a local restaurant in Oshawa called Berry Hill for our first get together. It’s a great little place that I really enjoyed. One of my favourite things they offer is their coffee. It's from a local coffee roaster in Pickering, ON.

Cooking with Friends is Fun! Dinner Parties Just Got a Whole Lot More Interesting.

Cooking with Friends is Fun! Dinner Parties Just Got a Whole Lot More Interesting.

It’s been five years since I moved back to the Durham region from Windsor, ON. It’s a bit strange for me to think about that because it doesn’t feel like it’s been that long. I lived there for only a year but it was formative. My friends and I built relationships in our kitchens, around our dinner tables resulting in food coma’s. It was great! We used to get together for dinner parties we called, “Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen”.

What a Trip, Catering My Sister's Wedding in Norway.

What a Trip, Catering My Sister's Wedding in Norway.

In 2012 my sister married the love of her life. I wish I could honestly say that at the time I was nothing but happy for her, but I wasn't. I, honestly, didn't know how I felt about LGBT marriage and felt conflicted because I loved my sister and I wanted to support her but didn't know if that was good for her.

A Very Merry Thanksgiving at the Cottage.

A Very Merry Thanksgiving at the Cottage.

This past thanksgiving our family did something we've never done before, we had our thanksgiving dinner at a cottage. Over the last 2 years my Aunt and Uncle have undertaken a huge renovation project. They've turned a small cottage into their dream retreat centre. Our family has taken advantage of their generous hospitality and journeyed there often this past summer.

Food Competitions, Finding Your Way Through Life, and Forcing Your Family to Taste Your Food.

A few weekends ago I prepared for my first food competition. The competition is hosted by Cono Sur Winery in Chile and the grand prize is a trip to tour their winery. (www.conosur.com) That sounds right up my alley! I created three dishes with the hopes that I would come up with at least one that I was really proud and excited to share with the public en masse.

Food Truck Frenzy - Whitby

Food Truck Frenzy - Whitby

This past weekend was the 2nd annual Food Truck Frenzy Festival. I wasn't able to attend last year so when I saw the advertisements line the streets of Whitby a little over a week ago I immediately contacted a few close friends of mine and invited them to come along with me. I'm so glad that we went. There is something special about having 25 food trucks and hundreds of people gathering and enjoying food together. You can get overwhelmed in that kind of glorious environment and I certainly did.

Melanie Pringles

Melanie Pringles

I've grown up and lived in the Durham region most of my life. Even though I loved to cook and learned to appreciate good food when I was young, I hadn't noticed the lack of food culture in my home town until I moved away for school. When people go out to eat in Durham they tend to end up in corporate restaurants, unless of course its to an ethnic place. And honestly that barely counts as all-you-can eat sushi/buffet places don't count.

Durham Craft Beer Festival: Seasonals and Ciders

Durham Craft Beer Festival: Seasonals and Ciders

Back in July a friend who knew that I had started to brew and enjoyed craft beer informed me that Oshawa was having their first Craft Beer festival later in the month. I was ecstatic and made it a priority to go. Being new to brewing myself I wanted to get exposure to as many craft breweries as I could to give me idea's for my own. The event was very successful  and I was looking forward to the one next year.
