Cherry Cheesecake Cream Ale Bread.

Cherry Cheesecake Cream Ale Bread.

With my latest beer recipe, Cherry Cheesecake Cream Ale, I added 1 kg of cherries into secondary fermentation to infuse my beer with cherry flavour. Most people throw that out but I just can’t. So, I ‘harvested’ them from my carboy and saved them for later use. I’m so glad I did because this Cherry Cheesecake Cream Ale Bread was a huge success! My family loved it!

I love being an uncle, mostly because I get to have all the fun without ANY of the responsibility. Plus I get to say things to my 18 month old niece that are slightly inappropriate for her age. For example, every time she cries because she gets frustrated by something, I casually say, “Growing up is tough kid.” Of course that’s true, growing up is hard, but does she understand that? Not a lick of it. But I do. Being the only boy and the youngest of three left me with scars. Having my sisters as siblings, one could only expect that. For better or worse, I owe them a lot because without them I wouldn’t be the man I am today without them. It was a rocky road growing up with those two hooligans but I made it out alive and to their credit inspired this, Rocky Road Banana Bread Recipe.  But before we get to the recipe let me explain just what kind of emotional scares they gave me,

Drunken Lime Banana Bread

A few years ago my sister and I went to Sandal’s Royal Bahamian Resort. I know, it’s weird that a brother and sister went to typically a couples only resort but it wasn’t. My sister was working as a travel agent at the time and through some really awesome company perks got a trip for two for free. I had just graduated from university with a BA and so with a very generous act of sibling love my sister offered to take me as a graduation gift. I was thrilled as I had never been to the Bahama’s, or anywhere in the Caribbean for that matter, and loved the prospect of being a pirate for a few days. And a pirate I was. I’d find myself asking fairly regularly. “Why is the rum always gone?” and I may or may not have taken some of the beer from our room home with me. One of things that you quickly discover while at a Sandal's resort is how much better the food and drinks are than at other all inclusive resorts. We ate, drank and were merry for the 4 days we were there. This recipe, Drunken Lime Banana Bread, was inspired by my time in the Bahama’s.

Double Chocolate Banana Bread

Where did the summer go? Honestly? July and August felt like they went by as fast as how long it took me to type this sentence. Between everything that I had to get done and catching all the Pokemon (except for the reclusive snorlax) I didn’t have time to work on this blog. I’m excited to finally have a consistent work schedule and get back to writing, cooking and eating. To help me get back into the swing of things I created this Double Chocolate Banana Bread recipe.

BBQ Bread

BBQ Bread

A few months ago our oven went kaput. This put us in a difficult situation. Do we buy a new oven now whenwe're planning on renovating the kitchen in the near future? Or do we stick the summer out and use our BBQ and smoker as much as we can? Not having an oven makes baking difficult, but I got my thinking cap on and tried something I've never done before... bake using the BBQ. I'm happy to report that my results were stellar!

Irish Red Sour Dough Bread

Irish Red Sour Dough Bread

About 6 weeks ago I was excited because my first batch of Irish Red ale was almost ready to be consumed. Unfortunately when I cracked open my first bottle and had a taste I was met with a very sour and gross flavour! The beer was wrecked! Instead of drinking a smooth red tinge ale I was met with a punch in the face. What happened was that a wild yeast strand got into the beer and created the off flavour.
