How I got started in Home Brewing

My very first IPA. I'm pretty proud of this one, it even has a nice head. Its hoppy in all the right sort of ways.

A few years ago I had to do an internship for my degree. I landed a sweet position in Windsor, ON. and met a ton of wonderful people and made a some long lasting friendships. Unfortunately I wasn't able to stay and had to move back to Toronto to finish my degree. However, it was there that I began to really appreciate the varieties of beers that are available, as many of my friends were not just consumers of beer, but beer connoisseurs. I loved this! While I was in culinary school I was trained the basics of pairing wine with food and I began to see the similarities with beer. My eyes were opened and my excitement grew.

Over the years their passion for micro-breweries grew and thought, "Why can't we make our own?" They started about 2 and a half years ago and whenever we talked, it would be the topic of conversation. Naturally my anticipation to try their home brews continued to grow until I was finally able to go visit them. Once I tried what they were doing and they showed me how easy it was to get started, I knew I had to get into it. Simply put, I was hooked.

I've been brewing for about 5 months now and have had mixed results. I'm learning, trying different things, and my appreciation for the art of brewing is growing. Currently I have not tried making my own recipes. All I have done is brewed recipes from my local brew shop but I hope to be creating my own in the very near future.

I'm excited that you are here for the journey with me! Let's get brewing!

Cheers!
